We’re developing America’s solar energy and storage infrastructure, helping to increase domestic energy production to ensure the nation’s energy security.

In 2024, Ørsted was the second-largest solar installer by capacity in the U.S. Our Mockingbird and Old 300 solar centers in Texas and our Eleven Mile Solar Center in Arizona were among the largest projects installed last year.

The advantages of solar energy and storage systems are manifold. Utility-scale solar projects:

  • Have dropped in price by 90% since 2015
  • Can be paired with battery energy storage systems (BESS) to meet fluctuating demand
  • Produce no emissions or pollution
  • Employ more than 250,000 Americans across the U.S.
Our Mockingbird Solar project (Lamar County, Texas) came online in 2024. It generates enough electricity to power over 80,000 homes annually.
The Eleven Mile Solar project (Pinal County, Arizona) came online in 2024. Its solar component can generate enough electricity to power over 65,000 homes annually, while the 300 MW / 1200 MWh storage component stores power for up to four hours each day.

Partnering with landowners and local communities


As a long-term operator of solar and BESS projects, we bring experience, expertise, and a belief in community to every project we operate. Our goal is to work with local landowners to ensure that communities benefit from every one of our projects.

As hosts of our solar and BESS projects, landowners can earn regular income that can be used to invest in their business, families, and communities. As a responsible developer, we maintain the quality of our partners’ land at all project stages, preserving soil, wildlife habitats, and natural resources. When a project ends, we recycle all solar panels and return land to its original state. And in every community in which we operate, Ørsted supports local public services like first responders, libraries, community centers, and schools.

Solar energy and storage projects


With decades of solar energy and storage experience and an established execution model, we create local jobs and power local homes while producing clean, affordable energy for all Americans.
Alabama
  • Muscle Shoals
    Muscle Shoals Solar, located in Colbert County, Alabama, generates 227 megawatts of solar power—enough to power 38,000 homes annually. The project includes a power purchase agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority and provides $1.5 million in landowner payments and property taxes for local communities annually. 
Arizona
  • Eleven Mile Solar
    Eleven Mile Solar is a co-located solar and storage project in Pinal County, Arizona. The solar project generates 300 megawatts of power—enough to power nearly 65,000 homes annually, while the 300 MW / 1200 MWh storage project can store power for up to four hours each day. The project includes a power purchase agreement with the Salt River Project and provides $5.6 million in landowner payments and property taxes for local communities annually.
Texas
  • Mockingbird Solar
    Mockingbird Solar, located in Lamar County, Texas, generates 468 megawatts of solar power—enough to power nearly 83,000 homes annually. The project includes corporate power purchase agreements with DSM, Covestro, Bloomberg, and UnitedHealth Group. As a part of developing Mockingbird Solar, Ørsted  donated almost 1,000 acres of the Smiley-Woodfin Native Prairie Grassland adjacent to the Mockingbird Solar Center to The Nature Conservancy to preserve in perpetuity. Mockingbird Solar provides $5 million in landowner payments and property taxes for local communities annually. 
  • Old 300 Solar
    Old 300 Solar, located in Fort Bend County, Texas, generates 430 MW of solar power – enough to power nearly 75,000 homes annually. The project includes a corporate power purchase agreement with Microsoft and provides $5.4 million in landowner payments and property taxes for local communities annually.
  • Permian Energy Center
    Permian Energy Center, located in Andrews County, Texas, generates 420 megawatts of solar power—enough to power 84,000 homes. The project includes a corporate power purchase agreement with Exxon Mobil and provides approximately $4 million in landowner payments and property tax payments to the local community annually. 
  • Sparta Solar
    Sparta Solar – part of the Helena Energy Center, a co-located wind and solar project – is located in Bee County, Texas. The combined project generates 268.2 megawatts of onshore wind power and 250 megawatts of solar power—enough to power 128,000 homes annually. Helena Energy Center provides over $6.9 million in landowner payments and property taxes for local communities annually. Sparta Solar includes corporate power purchase agreements with Target, PepsiCo, and Johnson & Johnson.
